Alpha

Sundays from 5-6.30pm at West Kirby United Reformed Church
starting Sunday 13 September

Alpha is a space to unpack the basics of the Christian faith together, a series of interactive sessions that explore life, faith and meaning. No pressure. No judgement. Just open conversation over some good food in an informal setting. That’s it. Come along, see what you think.

Each talk looks at a different question around the Christian faith and is designed to speak conversation. It's free and everyone's welcome. There's no need to book, just come along on Sundays from 13 September, 5-6.30pm at West Kirby URC.

How does Alpha work?

There are three key ingredients to Alpha:

1. Meet new people - grab some free food and get to know each other. Alpha is made for people who are in the same boat – not sure about faith, but curious to find out more. Each session kicks off with some time to connect and enjoy snacks and drinks together.

2. Watch a talk - watch a talk exploring Christianity's big questions. Each talk is designed to spark conversation and unpacks a different question. In all, the Alpha talks are designed to give an overview of the key beliefs of the Christian faith.

3. See what you think - The most important part of any Alpha – an open conversation about the week’s topic. You can share your thoughts and questions, or just see what other people made of it. There’s no pressure to say anything or come to any conclusions – just a safe space for everyone’s unique perspective.

FAQs

  • What sort of topics does Alpha cover? Rather than assuming any prior knowledge, Alpha starts with life's big questions and gradually introduces the central claims of the Christian faith, asking questions such as "Is there more to life than this?", "Why did Jesus die?", "How can I have faith?", "Does God heal today?" and "How can I make the most of the rest of my life?"

  • What if I can't come on 13 September? Or can't come every week? If you can't make the first week, or miss a session later on, don't worry. Whilst coming every week will help you get the most out of Alpha, there is an app you can download to catch up on the content from any weeks you miss. You are very welcome whenever you can make it along, we'd be pleased to see you.

  • Is Alpha reputable? Alpha is run all around the globe, online and in person. Alpha runs across all major Christian denominations and in a variety of different contexts. So far, over 37 million people have experienced Alpha in over 175 countries and over 100 languages. Check out Alpha's website here.

  • What's the cost? There's no charge for Alpha, it's completely free.

  • Can I bring my children? West Kirby URC is a Child-Friendly Church, and we hope everyone feels welcome. Alpha is a course for adults, and on this occasion we're sorry we don't have the resources to provide childcare, but there is a creche room available where children can play under your supervision, or they can bring their own activities and sit with you in the main session. Your children remain your own responsibility throughout.

  • Where do I park? Have a look at the information and map here.

  • Where's the entrance? The main entrance is the glass door on the corner of Meols Drive and Bridge Road, near Aldi. There will be someone at the door to greet you and show you in.

  • What if I don't want to talk much, or don't know the answers? Just come and listen. You're welcome as you are. No pressure. No judgement. Just open conversation over some good food. Come along, see what you think.
