Sundays at West Kirby URC

During COVID-19, the 10.30am service has moved onto Facebook Live, and you can also watch the videos here. When restrictions allow, we are having a 4.30pm service in the church building - find out more and book your seat here.

What can I expect at the 10.30am Service?
We’re delighted that our neighbours on Meols Drive, West Kirby School, have given us free use of their carpark for our 10.30am Sunday services. A steward is on the gate to let you in from 10am, and the gate opens automatically for you to exit when you wish.

Our welcome team will greet you at the church entrance and can show you in and answer any questions you might have. For the service, you're welcome to sit anywhere you choose, in a row of chairs or around a coffee table. Some people might be chatting or say hello whilst others might prefer to sit quietly to prepare for the service - you're welcome to do whatever you prefer.

Around 10.30am, the service leader will welcome everyone and pray, then invite the band to lead some contemporary worship songs, during which you are welcome to stand or sit, sing or listen. Often the songs include instrumental music, during which you might like to think or pray.

The service leader usually shares church news (and we might sing Happy Birthday if there's someone celebrating!) and might introduce the theme for the talk in an interactive way for all-ages, using a quiz, video or game for example. During another song, the children leave for their own BREAKOUT! groups if it's term-time. Visiting children are very welcome to join them, and the Bubbles group is especially for 0-5s, meeting in the church entrance lounge where the crèche room is easily accessible. Find out more about facilities for families with under 5s here.

The service continues with prayers and a talk based on a Bible passage. The preacher might be the Minister or a member of the church, or occasionally a guest speaker from a Christian charity. The themes for the talks and services are often parts of whole series on topics that seem relevant to our lives today - you can see examples of topics and listen online to talks here.

After the talk, there might be a time of prayer reflection or response, and some songs or hymns. The service leader closes the service by 11.45am with a prayer and an invitation for everyone to join us for refreshments in the hall. We believe in the power of prayer and our trained prayer ministry team are available after the service to pray with anyone who would appreciate this.

What can I expect at the 6.15pm Service?
Picture
Members of our welcome team will greet you at the church entrance and show you through to the lounge, where you can have a hot or cold drink before sitting down anywhere you choose. Around 6.15pm, the service leader will welcome everyone and share the theme for the evening. The band will lead a set of contemporary worship songs, during which you are welcome to stand or sit, sing or listen. Often the songs include instrumental music, during which you might like to think or pray.

After the sung worship, the service leader introduces the preacher for the evening, who speaks on the theme for the evening and the associated Bible passage and how they apply to life today, usually for about 30 minutes. You can listen to some talks from the 6.15pm service by listening online here.

After the talk, the service leader or preacher may lead a time of prayer, or the band may lead music during which there is an opportunity to respond to the message the preacher gave. We believe in the power of prayer and our trained Prayer Ministry Team are available during and after the service to pray with anyone who would appreciate this. The service usually concludes with more contemporary worship songs led by the band, and the service leader closes the service around 7.15-7.30pm with a prayer and an invitation to everyone to stay for refreshments in the entrance lounge.

People of all ages attend the 6.15pm service. There's no dress code and no obligation to give any money - we don't pass around a collection plate. You are welcome to contact us here if you have any questions about Sundays at West Kirby URC or would like us to look out for you when you visit.
